Library for Steppers – when design serves knowledge

For Stepáky, I designed a corporate library as an inspiring space for creativity and knowledge sharing. The modern design combines wood, metal and muted colours. Shelves of varying heights can hold everything from encyclopedias to paperbacks, and the strategic placement encourages natural use – even in the kitchen.

"When we at STEP spol. s r.o. started to think about how to better support the education and personal development of our employees, we came up with a proposal to create a company library. But we didn't want just ordinary shelves of books. We wanted a space that would be inspiring, functional and at the same time aesthetically fit into our working environment. We therefore approached Tereza, who took on the task with the utmost dedication. The result is two beautifully designed bookcases - one in the main corridor of our company and the other in the staff kitchen. The library in the hallway:It has become not only a source of professional information, but also a visual element that enlivens the space and supports our company culture. The design is in keeping with the design of the entire office environment.Library in the kitchen:It's cozy but still practical and efficient.Employees can pick up new knowledge here during their morning coffee or lunch break. Thanks to its clever layout and choice of materials, it fits perfectly into the environment without taking away from the space. Thanks to the great design and professional approach, the libraries have quickly become a favourite place for our employees. Tereza was able to combine aesthetics, functionality and a reference to our construction business, which was exactly what we were looking for. "

Design Solution Overview

At Stepáky, we realised that smart heads need a smart environment – and so the idea of creating a new corporate library was born. It wasn’t just a few shelves of books, but a space that would encourage creativity, knowledge sharing and inspiration.

The challenge? The libraries had to be practical, aesthetic and at the same time adapted to different needs. We wanted a place where colleagues would enjoy stopping by – not only for professional literature, but also for relaxation and informal brainstorming.

➡️ Design: I designed the bookcases in a modern minimalist style with a combination of natural wood, black metal and muted colours. Elegant but not cold.

➡️ Functionality: The shelves have different heights to accommodate both large encyclopedias and small paperbacks.

➡️ Location: the libraries are strategically placed – not only in the main relaxation zones, but also in less expected places… for example in the staff kitchen. Because who says inspiration can’t come from there too? 😊

Now, whenever someone reaches for a book, they’ll know that good design can be not only beautiful, but also useful and inspiring.
